Noise is one of the major complaints of people using open-plan coworking spaces. This can be especially problematic for people whose work requires concentration.

At the Beehive Community, creating a healthy, productive workplace is what we’re about. We’ve taken a number of steps to ensure that there will always be a nice, quiet place for you to focus and a happenin’, vibrant place when you’re ready to re-energize.

Here are some options when you’re working at the Beehive and need some uninterrupted quiet time:

  • Pop into the library. There’s no talking allowed and you can close the doors and block out the majority of ambient noise.
  • Grab a conference room. As long as they’re not booked, you’re always welcome to use any of the five conference/board/training rooms and enjoy some You Time.
  • Recline in the living room. A quiet space with gentle lighting, the living room is a wonderful space to focus and unwind.
  • Use a Zen Booth. If you’re in need of absolute quiet and privacy, these private, insulated and ventilated mini-rooms are ideal.
  • Pop into the satellite lunch rooms. Each board room has an optional break-out lunch room. When there are no meetings or before and after lunchtime, these rooms are available for your use.
  • Take a walk. Sometimes moving the body is a great way to stimulate the mind. Either outdoors or in the fitness room, you can walk, cycle or stretch.

In addition, here are some things that you can do to reduce the overall noise level for your own comfort and that of the other members:

  • Being mindful of your own noise levels
  • Use headphones when on calls and listening to music
  • Take breaks in quieter areas to give your mind a rest
  • Apologize to others if you unexpectedly make a loud noise – or warn people if you know it’s coming.
  • Try using noise-canceling headphones.
  • If you are working on a video call, try to find a quiet spot where you won’t disturb other people. You can also use a headset with a microphone to help reduce background noise.
  • If you are the one who is making noise, be mindful of your surroundings. Try to keep your voice down and avoid making loud noises.

If you need help finding that perfect spot to spark your creativity, just let one of the helpful staff members know. We’re here to make your Beehive experience as perfect as possible.
